where we train the art of Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen. I am Janesa Kruse. I started this school in 1981 in Portland on North Williams Ave. That year Mas Goeroe Agoeng Barbara Niggel came to my school and taught a seminar. I still remember everything she taught and it is on that day that I mark the beginning of my training in Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen . I would like to share with you how I became connected to this beautiful, flowing art.

I first met Mas Goeroe Agoeng Barbara Niggel at a National Women’s Martial Arts training camp in New York several years earlier. I participated in an amazing ground fighting workshop in which she taught the basics of matjanan tiger style. I felt a tremendous energy when I moved in this art. I was alive, connected, and in the moment.

At the time, I was an accomplished top ten tournament fighter and held several black belts including one in Modern Arnis Filipino Martial Arts. Everything I had previously trained paled in comparison to Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen. I knew I had found my art and my teacher. This was the beginning of emptying my cup and starting anew. Choosing to surrender and release was the most challenging and rewarding decision I ever made.

Frequently I traveled to continue my training with Mas Goeroe Agoeng. Sometimes she came here to teach and guide me. During these early years, I met one of her top Black Belts, Scott Montgomery. He eventually moved to Portland and began teaching at One With Heart Tulen Center, where he continues to instruct and support the art with his expertise and knowledge.

Mas Goeroe Agoeng teaches with pure energy that goes beyond the physical. One afternoon, I was part of a group of students she was instructing on the beach. We trained for hours. Afterwards I was really tired and slept. When I woke, I realized that while sleeping I had been given the application of what I was taught that afternoon.

 Mas Goeroe Agoeng Willy Wetzel created Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen and passed it directly to Mas Goeroe Agoeng Barbara Niggel. I am proud to be a student of Mas Goeroe Ageong Barbara and to train Mas Goeroe Agoeng Willy Wetzel's art. Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen is an art of compassionate balanced action. I am committed to bringing this art to the world in its purest form and with the highest light and love.
