Third Phase

Third Phase training marks the beginning of Bingatang Ampat (the fight of the four animals). Each of the four animals; Blekok, Oeler, Monjet, and Matjanan, encompass three fighting principles.

BLEKOK (crane) Here students acquire aerial and multiple kicking techniques as well as the erratic energy of the Mad Crane and the quieter, more deadly moves of the Lazy Crane.

OELER (snake) The aspects of the oeler include snake, cobra, and king cobra. From the oeler students learn flowing, weaving movement and fast striking out of any position.

MONJET (monkey) The monjet with its playful, but fierce energy and medium height stances, sets the groundwork for the heavy, effective moves of the ape, and the crazy antics of the drunken monkey.

MATJANAN (tiger) The matjanan's grounded movements lead to the three-limbed fighting style of Harimau. The surprising but deadly moves of Matjanan Tienggie - Leaping Tiger - challenge practitioners to move quickly up from grounded positions to attack either standing or grounded opponents.

Practitioners learn joeroes (combinations of strikes) from all four animals. As they continue to train they discover the ilmu (internal spirit) of each animal. Advanced students train the spirit of the Naga (Indonesian Dragon) Third Phase also includes the practice of standardized and personalized forms, as well as Chinese and Indonesian weapons forms.
