Joel MuchI began training Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen in 1992 at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. There was a buzz on campus through the dorms about this cool Indonesian martial arts class where you learned to fall without getting hurt, defend yourself against an attacker, and how to fight like an animal. I was playing rugby at the time, but I was intrigued so I decided to check it out. Fortunately for me, the instructor was so flexible that she let me join class unofficially mid term. I was hooked immediately. I would come straight from rugby practice to class and I never missed a class... I did that for all four years of college, progressing from a student to a student instructor. Now I am a fourth degree black belt, but I am still a student more than I am an instructor in this art. The truth is that no matter how much I learn, there is always more to learn. This aspect keeps me very humble. And I think that is what has kept me training for so long. Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen is never boring and there is always more to learn! |

Jenny Davidson
I started training Poekoelan at Lewis and Clark college in 1998. In the beginning I was most impressed with the beauty and strength of the movement and how all practitioners shine in their own individual way. I love instructing Poekoelan and am most impressed every time I come to class. |
Gerry Donaghy
My Tulen path began in 1995, as a way to fulfill my college's PE requirement. Over a decade later, I continue to train and hold the rank of second degree Black Belt. The Tulen principles I learn through Mas Goeroe Agoeng's beautiful art enrich every aspect of my life, and my goal as an instructor is to inspire students to find that sense of original joy within. |
Farley Welch
I have trained in Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen under the direction of Mas Goeroe Agong, Mas Goeroe Barbara Niggel and Goeroe Janesa Kruse for thirteen years. I currently hold a 3rd Degree Black Belt. This beautiful martial art has brought peace, love and understanding to my life, marriage and family. I truly cannot imagine life otherwise. It is my privilege to serve the school by instructing beginning students in the Cun Tao program. At the direction of my teachers, I conduct a high-energy workout that combines fitness conditioning, comprehensive self-defense and a basic foundation for martial arts training. |
Tim Cuscadan
Training since 1997, Tim Cuscaden has discovered the rewards of PTT in both personal and professional life. Personal life has been rewarded with bountiful energy created from training PTT. This bountiful energy comes from the physical conditioning practiced, as well from the arts teachings of the importance of breath. Breath keeps us calm and flowing; helpful in moments of potential compromising situations or keeping up with a young child. Professionally PTT aids in relentless; the ability to change the angle (view), determination and the ability to sense where to move next. These being performed with a serene heart. |
